SOLiD BARS Brings In-Building Connectivity for Medical Device Maker

When an industry-leading medical device company needed stronger, more reliable cellular service inside its existing facility, in the Mid-Atlantic U.S. with both office space and manufacturing operations, it turned to trusted technology partner Atlantic Technology Group (ATG). The team selected the SOLiD BARS system to deliver coverage across a large footprint while keeping installation practical for an active production environment. This project was ATG’s first deployment of the new SOLiD BARS platform—and it set the stage for future expansion.

The Goal

The goal was straightforward: Improve internal cellular coverage for employees working throughout both the office and manufacturing portions of the nearly 120,000-square-foot building.

The environment introduced real-world constraints typical of operating production sites, including clean areas, where access above the ceiling is tightly controlled. ATG’s field installers could only open ceiling tiles for less than 15 minutes without triggering a required reseal and restart of the clean room process, limiting how far components could be extended into certain controlled spaces.

Why SOLiD BARS?

ATG builds connectivity solutions addressing weak cellular reception in a variety of industries, including manufacturing and office buildings. For this project, ATG’s team evaluated multiple approaches and ultimately recommended SOLiD BARS based on the building’s size, expected demand, and total cost considerations.

“We see SOLiD as a great fit for larger spaces. The SOLiD BARS solution was ideal for improving cellular coverage for the client’s employees both in the office and manufacturing spaces,” noted Anna Ferrens, sales associate at ATG. The end customer reviewed multiple proposals for cellular signal boosting in the facility and ultimately selected SOLiD BARS based on both the expected performance and pricing.

Implementation

Despite the controlled-area limitations, ATG’s on-site work proceeded smoothly. The field installation lead described the overall installation experience as “really easy,” with the clean-room timing requirement being the primary operational wrinkle.

ATG also emphasized the importance of coordination during design and delivery, especially for a first-time rollout, highlighting the close alignment between the ATG team and SOLiD’s Enterprise Solutions team to keep the project moving.

“We were pleased with how helpful SOLiD’s internal team was. Both teams collaborated very well to produce the best outcome,” explained Ferrens, who manages the relationship with the end customer.

Results

Post-installation feedback from the contact maker’s team was strongly positive, reinforcing that the solution met expectations in day-to-day use. In addition, ATG’s field team validated performance directly in the monitoring system via the SOLiD BARS EMS Portal.

“All of the readings are either good or excellent—it’s performing great,” said Tim Connelly, project manager at ATG.

Looking Ahead

With the first site complete, ATG’s customer has approved moving forward with a second SOLiD BARS deployment at another of their locations in the South Central U.S. The initial installation demonstrated that the SOLiD BARS approach can scale to fit the needs of Middleprise facilities, including mixed-use buildings, while accommodating operational constraints such as controlled clean areas.

For ATG, the project served as a repeatable blueprint: Evaluate the environment, select the best solution for the building’s size and demand, and execute with tight coordination between integrator and manufacturer to deliver measurable, validated coverage improvements.
