New fiber-to the-edge class of wireless solutions tackles Middleprise coverage challenges paving the way forward for a 5G experience

PLANO, Texas — October 17, 2019 — SOLiD, the leader in in-building coverage, capacity, and public safety infrastructure, today introduced Fiber2Antenna™, a new class of wireless solutions aimed at solving the Middleprise in-building coverage challenge. The first new product in this family is the SOLiD ALLIANCE™ edgeROU, a compact active 5G antenna that will be unveiled during Mobile World Congress Los Angeles, October 22-24, 2019.

Built on the reliable, modular SOLiD ALLIANCE platform, the innovative new Fiber2Antenna solutions deliver advanced fiber-to the-edge technology which provides a ‘Wi-Fi like’ mobile experience indoors. The SOLiD Fiber2Antenna solutions are compatible with major mobile networks worldwide and support 5G new radio (NR) specifications for future-proof investment protection.

“Leveraging our expertise in industry-leading, multi-operator DAS technology, SOLiD is driving cost and complexity out of Middleprise solutions to solve coverage issues that otherwise can’t be addressed affordably,” said Ken Sandfeld, President of SOLiD Americas. “With the introduction of this new Fiber2Antenna class solution segment, SOLiD will change how enterprise buildings solve wireless coverage in 2020 just as 5G commercial services approach mass market adoption.”

The new SOLiD ALLIANCE edgeROU offers a small size, active antenna for ease of installation and 15-25% more coverage per antenna point in your building with more powerful amplifiers than available from the competition. The edgeROU provides the Middleprise with a ‘Wi-Fi like’ solution to cover their buildings. Shipments of the ALLIANCE edgeROU are set to begin in Q1 2020, and SOLiD will begin taking orders before the end of this year. February 25, Plano, Texas,   -- SOLiD, the leader in cellular in-building and public safety infrastructure, today announced that they will deliver solutions based on the O-RAN Alliance architecture to global operators in South Korea, Japan, the United States and throughout the Europe/Middle East region. SOLiD recently joined the O-RAN Alliance as a contributing member. As a member of the O-RAN Alliance, SOLiD joins industry leaders who are leading the industry toward open, interoperable interfaces and RAN virtualization.

SOLiD to Deliver O-RAN -based Solutions in 2019

The O-RAN Alliance-defined open interface is the key feature for advanced and efficient mobile RAN in 5G environments, as well as in 4G, which benefits both mobile operators and vendors.

SOLiD's innovation paths in product and technology are aligned with the O-RAN Alliance-defined open interface, specifically in such products as SOLiD's IA-8000, Mobile Front-haul Solution, and GENESIS Distributed Antenna System.

According to SOLiD CEO, Dr. Seung Hee Lee, "SOLiD is at the forefront of providing Open RAN solutions to global operators in South Korea, Japan, the US and across the globe. Our early experience, and other ongoing Open RAN initiatives can accelerate deployment of innovative radio technology in mobile networks across the globe. We are delivering O-RAN solutions in 2019 and will do so for years to come."

Iain Gillott, President of iGR comments, "The RAN market is due for new business and technology models, lower price points and easier deployments scenarios – these will be needed to lower the cost of 5G deployment and speed time to market. O-RAN allows vendors such as SOLiD, with extensive radio expertise, to enter the market and provide a range of solutions."

SOLiD is also included in a press release issued by the O-RAN Alliance and global operators and vendors. Read here.

SOLiD Announces 5G Solutions Platform and Debuts GENESIS DAS at Verizon VZTUF XIII

SOLiD’s New and Expanded 4G and 5G Solutions are Designed to Meet Demands for 2019 and Beyond

January 14, Plano, Texas – SOLiD, the leader in cellular in-building and public safety infrastructure, today announced the debut of the SOLiD GENESIS DAS for fiber-to the-edge solution needs, and announced an expanded set of capabilities for the SOLiD ALLIANCE platform to meet the needs of 5G and 4G solutions for the coming years.

Ken Sandfeld, President of SOLiD Americas, said, “The SOLiD ALLIANCE platform is a proven leader for in-building solutions such as stadiums, arenas, airports, subways, and commercial buildings.  Our record of success is a testament to the platform.  Today, the ALLIANCE platform already supports 5G NR (New Radio). As we look to the future, and to avoid the rip-and -replace strategy many in the industry do, we’ll be enhancing platform capabilities to support CBRS, mmWave and other advanced solutions soon.”

He continues, “While others talk about deploying 5G solutions, SOLiD is already deploying 5G solutions in South Korea. SOLiD has already delivered the world's first commercially deployed 5G repeater to SKT.  We were selected as SKT’s preferred partner on July 13, 2018 and then deployed units on December 1, 2018 when SKT did its first 5G air transmission. SKT is going to commercially deploy these over-the-airrepeaters nation-wide in South Korea, starting with the Seoul metropolitan area. SOLiD will also provide 5G mobile front-haul solutions for the leading Korean MNO.

We are proud to be among the first companies in the world delivering infrastructure for 5G deployments.”

Sandfeld also adds, “Here at Verizon’s VZTUF XIII, we are very pleased to showcase SOLiD GENESIS DAS to address the needs of customers who want a software based, fiber-to-the- edge solution, designed to meet the requirements of the middleprise market.”

The GENESIS approach incorporates innovative software and hardware features that simplify installation and configuration, delivers 100% user control, and increases flexibility for all vertical market segments and applications.

With enhanced software functionality designed to lower labor cost and leverage remote configuration and commissioning combined with a standards-based, fiber-to-the-edge infrastructure, SOLiD’s approach fits seamlessly with today’s middleprise requirements.

SOLiD will be training attendees on SOLiD GENESIS DAS at VZTUF XIII, at the Hilton Austin Hotel, Austin, Texas. Training sessions titled “SOLiD DAS Roadmap and Roundtable Discussion” will provide hands-on training of SOLiD’s GENESIS DAS solutions. One session will run on Monday, January 14 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm in Room 400. The second session will be held on Tuesday, January 15 from 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm in Room 408.  SOLiD is also exhibiting at VZTUF XIII at booth number 55.

SOLiD Enhances Deployment Flexibility Across All Bands with New ALLIANCE 2W Remote Unit

New SOLiD ALLIANCE 2W Remote Unit simplifies installation, commissioning and management
September 12, Plano, Texas – SOLiD, the leader in cellular in-building and public safety infrastructure, today announced the new and improved 2W Remote Optic Unit (N2ROU) as an addition to SOLiD’s ALLIANCE portfolio. The ALLIANCE 2W Remote Unit (N2ROU) helps operators simplify installation, commissioning and management with a new durable design.
The new SOLiD ALLIANCE 2W remote unit can be mixed with other ALLIANCE remote units (5W, 20W and 40W) in a single system all driven by a common head end, allowing for simple firmware upgrades, cost efficiency and flexibility.
The new ALLIANCE 2W remote unit delivers +33 dBm output power per band, except 2.5TTD at +32 dBm, at the antenna port for the 600, 700LTE, 700 FirstNet, 800 (Sprint)/850C, 1900P, 2100AWS, 2300WCS bands, and 2.5TDD.  This highly efficient, but small footprint unit can also support all commercial bands simultaneously. An optional Add-on Remote unit (AOR) can also be connected to the N2ROU to offer additional RF services.
With a rugged, yet compact NEMA 4 design, the new ALLIANCE 2W unit is designed for wall mounting, indoors or outdoors, but can also be rack mounted. A dry contact relay can be used for input alarms from external units, like battery backup systems. This compact design allows for maximum flexibility for future expansion.
Mike Williamson, Director of Product Management at SOLiD says, “With our customers in mind, the ALLIANCE 2W N2ROU was created to provide a solution that is as cost effective as possible. In doing so, we discovered the best way to achieve this is to have one common band module for all bands creating a cost efficient, reliable and rugged solution.”
The ALLIANCE 2W N2ROU also offers the additional benefits:

  1. All commercial bands in one cabinet: 700 (including FirstNet), 800/850, 1900, 2100, 600, 2300, and 2500
  2. Flexible 2500TDD deployment: either SISO (one or two sub-bands to support up to 120 MHz) or MIMO (one sub-band)
  3. Convection cooling
  4. VHF/UHF support in Add-on Remote (AOR)

Visit SOLiD at the Mobile World Congress Americas September 12-14, Los Angeles, CA, Booth #W.1220 to speak with a SOLiD representative about the new ALLIANCE 2W Remote Optical Unit (N2ROU).
